Global situation of undertakings for collective investment at the end of August 2026
Press release 26/20
I. Overall situation
As at 31 August 2026, the total net assets of undertakings for collective investment, comprising UCIs subject to the 2010 Law, specialised investment funds and SICARs, amounted to EUR 6,790.699 billion compared to EUR 6,686.574 billion as at 31 July 2026, i.e. an increase of 1.56% over one month. Over the last twelve months, the volume of net assets increased by 14.12%.
The Luxembourg UCI industry thus registered a positive variation amounting to EUR 104.125 billion in August. This increase represents the sum of positive net capital investments of EUR 45.881 billion (+0.69%) and of the positive development of financial markets amounting to EUR 58.244 billion (+0.87%).
The development of undertakings for collective investment is as follows:

The number of undertakings for collective investment taken into consideration totalled 2,961, against 2,960 the previous month. A total of 2,007 entities adopted an umbrella structure representing 12,307 sub-funds. Adding the 954 entities with a traditional UCI structure to that figure, a total of 13,261 fund units were active in the financial centre.
As regards the impact of financial markets on the main categories of undertakings for collective investment and the net capital investment in these UCIs, the following can be said for the month of August.
During the month, geopolitical tensions involving Iran continued to drive market movements, with growing concerns about inflation due to elevated energy prices. Equity markets recorded broad-based gains, supported by robust second-quarter corporate earnings, particularly within the technology sector, and continued investment in AI infrastructure. Against this backdrop, most equity categories delivered strong monthly performances, led by Japanese, Asian and US equities, which also benefited from a rebound in technology stocks following the sharp sell-off in July. By contrast, Latin American equities declined over the month mostly due to concerns about slowing economic growth and heightened political uncertainty in Brazil.
In August, equity UCI categories registered an overall positive capital investment, with inflows in all categories, except Asian equities and Latin American equities.

During the month, bond markets were negatively affected by rising yields, which reached multi-year highs amid heightened inflation concerns and growing expectations of tighter monetary policy, notably following a hawkish speech by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh at the annual Jackson Hole symposium. Against this backdrop, most fixed income UCI categories delivered negative monthly returns.
In August, fixed income UCIs registered an overall positive net capital investment from all categories.
