Investment vehicles and investment fund managers

In order to carry out its activities in Luxembourg, a vehicle or an investment fund manager requires prior authorisation granted by the CSSF.

The CSSF’s prudential supervision aims at ensuring that the investment vehicles and managers subject to its supervision comply at all times with all the legal, regulatory and contractual provisions relating to their organisation and operation in order to to protect the investors and the stability of the financial system.

Prudential supervision is exercised via:

  • off-site supervision based on the analysis of the periodic financial information, annual reports, other reports (including the reports of the approved statutory auditors (réviseurs d’entreprises agréés)), and regular or ad hoc information received by the CSSF;
  • on-site supervision, i.e. on-site inspections carried out by the CSSF agents at the offices of the supervised entities.
